Ways to Extend the Life of Your Electronic Gadgets

In the last five years, there has been a significant shift to electronic appliances. Whether it is home or corporate, our lives depend on these devices. And these electronic devices do not come cheap; especially if you are the owner of a Macbook or a gaming laptop. Therefore, it makes sense that you want them to last as long as possible. When you do not know how to recycle your old laptop here are some ways you can improve the life of your electronic devices.

Batteries

When charging your phone and tablet, you have to take certain precautions to ensure that you do not degrade the battery life excessively.

Only choose fast charging when you are in a rush. Although this feature quickly charges your device, it also wears down your battery faster. Additionally, make sure that you do not charge your battery overnight as it will significantly impact the life of the battery in the long-run.

If your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on even when they are not being used, then you are wasting your battery trying to find a device to pair. Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use to get extended battery life.

However, if Wi-Fi is available, it is recommended to use it instead of mobile data. This is because Wi-Fi uses less battery life as opposed to a cellular connection.

Often we have tons of apps running in the background even when we are not using the same. This will naturally eat up battery life and data over time. You can put such apps to sleep under the App Power Management option. This will save the battery life of your phone and keep it running smoothly for a long time.

Laptop or Computer

Laptops and computers are made of various moving parts that get hot during the operation. The rise in temperature expands the metal and then contracts when it cools down. This results in wear and tear, and causes the parts to fail after many uses. To extend the life of your gadget, you can choose to recycle your laptop, or try to keep your system as cool as possible. Dust and debris can get clogged into the ports and fans and reduce airflow on the internal components. Therefore, make sure you blow out and clean your system on a regular basis.

Frequent shutdown and power on can cause excessive wear and tear on the parts as well. Therefore, the less this occurs, the longer your computer system will perform. But it is also not recommended to keep your computer running round the clock. So you have to focus on maintaining a balance between the two. You can shut down the system every other or two days.

Ensure to perform weekly updates on your Windows system. These updates contain driver/software upgrades, security fixes, patches, etc., that help your system to run smoothly. Additionally, you should keep your antivirus software updated at all times. The new updates come with the potential to combat recently released bugs and keep your system running smoothly.

Many people don’t think about upgrading the hardware of the laptop, but it can be significantly helpful. You can do this by installing more RAM, a bigger hard drive, or putting in a new display. The first thing to do is identify which part is causing the system to slow down and then upgrading the same.

Smartphones

At times, smartphones experience serious lags that make it extremely challenging to use the device.

In the majority of cases, your smartphone slows down because the RAM or storage capacity has reached its maximum limit. This makes the phone less responsive, and to avoid this, ensure to remove images, files, messages, or apps that you do not need.

Investing in good charging practices can help in extending the life of the battery. Instead of waiting for your battery to drop to 25%, plug it on after it hit 75%. If you continue to charge your phone at a low battery percentage, it will only work in its optimum potential for limited charges.

A broken smartphone glass can make it harder to use the phone and result in further damages. And replacing a phone screen can cost a lot of money. Instead, you should take precautions to protect the screen from the get-go. Investing in tempered glass is a smart investment and can significantly reduce the risk of smashing the screen.

A new battery can bring a new life to your older smartphone as well. Batteries come with limited charge cycles, and once that is achieved, they tend to become less efficient at charging. And simply replacing the battery can significantly improve the performance of your smartphone.

Tablets

Display of tablets features rich colors and high resolution to offer maximum clarity. But it is also one of the main things that can impact the battery life of your tablets. The power needed to light up the displays can significantly reduce the battery life. Try to keep the brightness low, and you will be surprised to see how much battery life you end up saving.

Fancy settings can put a lot of burden on your device and can even cause your device to hang in the middle of opening an app, scrolling information, or viewing pages. Go to the settings of your tablet and look for tabs for special animation effects and turn them off. This will significantly improve the performance of the tablet.

Tablet’s screens are highly susceptible to fingerprint and dust. When dust tends to get accumulated on the tablet’s display, it becomes less responsive to the touch commands. Use a clean microfiber cloth and gently wipe the screen clean. You can use a bit of professional cleaning liquid or apple cider vinegar to clean the screen. But make sure you do not directly spray the liquid on display.

Format the SD card of your tablet on a regular basis is equivalent to disk cleaning on laptops/computers. By doing this once every three months can keep your system running smoothly.

By following good maintenance and care practices, you can ensure your electronic devices continue to run efficiently for a longer time period.
