Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elizabeth Schue Daniel and his mother moved from New Jersey to California. He had a great new job, but Daniel quickly learned that dark-haired Italian men with an emphasis on Jersey did not fit in with the blonde surfing crowd. Daniel managed to understand some of the struggles, but eventually some people from the same karate school took him to a corner. When Daniel lost consciousness, when he saw Miyagi, the old gardener quarreled and saved him, beating half a dozen teenagers. Miyagi and Daniel immediately discover the real driving force behind the abuse of boys in the form of their karate teachers. Miyagi promises to teach Daniel karate and organize tournament fights across the valley. When his training began, Daniel did not understand what was being shown to him. Miyagi seems to be more interested in Daniel painting fences and waxing machines than teaching him karate.
